Felix Thornley Cobbold

Felix Thornley Cobbold (1841 - 1909) gave Ipswich's Christchurch Mansion and Park to Ipswich Borough Council in 1895. A member of the local family of brewers, M.P. for Stowmarket and for Ipswich, Mayor of Ipswich in 1896. Cobbold's far-sighted generosity saved Christchurch Mansion and Park from dispersal. His portrait, painted in 1909, is displayed in the Mansion.
