Brian Daniel Coffey

He did National Service in the army 1948-50. Boxed with the army; was badly beaten and broke nose. Difficulty breathing. After the army, played rugby and got a trial for the All Whites (Swansea) but they couldn't insure him. So he switched to semi-professional soccer; played for Clydach with brother-in-law Roy. Tipped for an amateur soccer cap at one time. Very keen on ballroom dancing. In 2007 received a University of Swansea Award for Lifetime of Service Promoting Sports in Schools and the Youth Service. His brother is a Professor of English and an expert on Rudyard Kipling. Brian has two knee & one hip replacements.
